About

Bob Wild Machinery (BWM) is very much a family run business, dealing with many of its customers on a personal level, and based in the heart of the North.

Bob Wild has a long history of dealing directly with machinery, from growing up on the family farm and operating the tractors and equipment there, to joining the Royal Navy as a Mechanical Engineer straight from school, for 5 years, then returning back to his roots of farming.

After working for certain companies throughout the UK as a sales rep and demonstrator, Bob saw a gap in the market in the Yorkshire area for someone to provide a no nonsense, honest and reliable machinery sales and service business. In 1997, Bob set up a business in his hometown of Halifax, which by 1998 had caught the attention of John Deere and resulted in the franchise for West and South Yorkshire. This partnership was to continue for 16 years. Joined by new generations of family members, the business grew and developed into what it is today.

Here at Bob Wild Machinery we have grown a reputation for high standards and attention to detail. As the company has transformed and diversified over the past 10 years, we now specialise in delivering high quality second hand machinery and equipment to the market. Whether that be a compact tractor for your home or business, to a JCB Telehandler to work on a construction site or on farm, or a 200hp Tractor. We have the machinery solution to meet your requirements, whether through our own stock or the extensive network of suppliers and contacts we have built up in the industry over the years of trading.

We are very much a personal, hands on family company, you will more than likely be dealing with a ‘Wild’ or a long serving staff member when you place that call. Our machines go through a specific process, which you can learn more about on our Workshop page, from our website, before becoming available for sale. This process gives the customer piece of mind, and guarantee of quality and reliability. We offer an extensive range of both new and used plant & agricultural machinery equipment, with every effort to source and supply affordable quality; such as Excavators, Telehandlers, Tractors, Trailers, Attachments, Dumpers etc.

A BRIEF TIMELINE

1997 - 2006

In November 1997 Bob took the decision to set up his own business repairing and selling compact tractors, starting out from his shed at home with himself and another mechanic. Space soon ran out and they moved to Pellon Lane Garage in Halifax in January 1998. By August of that same year, the business had grown significantly and word had travelled. The John Deere Franchise for West and South Yorkshire was acquired later on that year, a further 3 staff were employed to take on Parts and Workshop roles.

Over the next 8 years they had employed Sales representatives for the South and West Yorkshire areas and increased the Workshop staff, enabling the company to establish themselves, along with John Deere, in the domestic, commercial and golf markets.

Timeline

2006 - 2015

By the time 2006 came round Bob Wild Grass Machinery had significantly out grown its site in Halifax, and in April of that year we relocated to a new site in Mytholmroyd with a much larger showroom and workshop facility. Now employing 12 staff the business really began to grow and develop, holding numerous open days, golf days and ride-and-drive days to promote the John Deere range to customers. Large contracts with local authorities and golf clubs were received, including one of the largest Gold Club deals that John Deere had ever been a part of in 2010 with Mid Yorks G.C.

By 2014 Bob Wild Grass Machinery had won an award with John Deere for sales, and was in the top 10 in the country. With the market and industry ever changing, Bob recognised another gap in the market and in 2013 set up BW Industrial Equipment under the control of his son Richard Wild. With Richard’s keen interest in Plant and Construction machinery, and fine attention to detail, the company began supplying a full range of equipment to the UK and International market. Utilising the workshop facilities and infrastructure we already had in place

Timeline

2015 - 2017

At the start of 2015 John Deere’s global business strategy altered and they decided to drastically change their Dealer strategy, where single depot outlets where not part of their “future” and Americanisation of the company. So in July of that year, after 16 hard years of building the brand in the Yorkshire area the relationship came to an end.

Having a reputation for providing a quality product and service, the business searched the market for new Manufactures to work with. Deals were signed with Kubota and Polaris, and become part of the push of Kubota’s new Agriculture range.

BW Industrial Equipment had grown significantly by this time and had taken on 15,000 sq.ft storage facility, and was now employing a fitter specifically for the service and preparation of Plant machinery, to meet the ever growing demand for its high quality used equipment

Timeline

2017- Now

Stepping into 2017, Bob had witnessed big changes in the market and industry, significantly over the past 5 years. Limitations on Local Authority budgets, Golf club memberships dwindling, local farming communities hit by declining milk prices, and manufacturing costs increasing drastically.

Despite being very impressed with the Kubota direction, product range and early relationships we had built We had also grown tired of the way other manufacturers were progressing and dictating business practice to us.

So at the start of the year, we ceased all ties with manufacturers and suppliers, to concentrate on where our strengths are. Deciding to merge together with BW Industrial Equipment, to provide quality used Tractors, Compacts, Telehandlers, Excavators, Dumpers etc. To the UK market and abroad. We relocated to a purpose made site with a new workshop and storage yard and storage building.
